What
makes the Family Life Center stand out are the amenities, both physical
and emotional. FLC guests
are provided with private sleeping accommodations (including linens),
hot meals, showers (including towels and toiletries), case management,
counseling, life-skills classes and referrals to other community
resources.
Unlike most shelters, the
FLC allows families to live together in their own accommodation, so that
they can enjoy the success of getting back on their feet as a whole family unit. Guests
enjoy the privacy of their own bedroom and bathroom, and experience
community as they eat a hot meal with fellow residents in the shared
dining room. Laundry machines are also available for residents' use.
The newly-renovated Bright Space, equipped with comfortable
furniture, allows residents to gather for
fellowship with games, computers, video games, and television.
Throughout the day the Bright Space also provides a peaceful place for
residents to rest and relax.
The
FLC is connected to The Salvation Army Youth Education Town (YET).
Throughout their time as residents, and even for an extended period of
transition afterward, FLC youth and their families can participate in
the many programs the
YET has to offer for no charge. While parents take enrichment classes
about finances, parenting, job skills, or health and nutrition, youth
can participate in the YET's After School program, School of Performing
Arts, Taekwondo, or Teen Night. Zumba exercise classes are also
available to residents, as well as the community.
